  • Muros hablados (Spoken walls) 9/28/07
Description: a photoblog devoted to words, symbols, and drawings found on walls
Comments: "When nobody listens to you, you look for another means." Walls, often intended to restrict our freedom of movement or to "protect" us, sometimes become canvasses for those having no other way to "express ideas, thoughts, emotions..." And though the words and images left on walls are bound to eventually be erased, the person behind the site documents the found expressions through photos, hoping "those words that were written can be read..."

  • Tokyo Polaroids 9/25/07
Description: Five polaroids are better than four.
Comments: Since 1888, the country of Japan has been comprised of 47 prefectures, or "sub-national jurisdictions," Tokyo being one of them. On its about page, today's pick makes reference to that fact, stating that the site "begins temporarily with 5 people of Tokyo," each documenting everyday life through Polaroid photographs. From the list on that page, it appears they plan to eventually enlist more participants from beyond Tokyo. And if I might borrow an idea from the site's tagline, five Polaroid galleries are better than one, so enjoy...;~))

  • Maria Hinze 9/24/07
    Description: paintings and installation art
Comments: Mysterious. The single-page website presents 17 images, some of huge, colorful paintings, some of Maria's studio, and some of elaborately painted walls in the studio or, perhaps, another unknown, private space. There's no other information provided, but one comes away feeling the works are downright inspiring, both to the viewer and to the smiling artist in the last image on the page......

  • hskupin.info 9/18/07
    Description: photos by Henrik Skupin
Comments: Henrik started the photoblog a little over a month ago as "a better and more comfortable way of publishing" his photos, so there's only about 40 shots in the archives so far. Among them are a shot of Berlin's new railway station (I love it) and a luscious New Zealand landscape. And there's a lot more in his gallery, online long before he started the photoblog...

  • Light & Dark Photoblog 9/8/07
    Description: photography by Kevin Crafts
Comments: "Now he's out there in a big world and probably really scared." That was the beginning of the story, which fortunately, had a happy ending. Birds appear to be one of Kevin's favorite things. They're also the subject of my absolute favorite – a magnificent shot!

  • Tobias Battenberg 9/2/07
Description: experimental typography and design projects
Comments: Tobias' Akzidenz Grotesk project is what I consider to be the main attraction here, though his other design and typography-related works are cool too. Projecting characters of an old typeface onto urban surfaces is what it's about and the series of images is also downloadable as PDF file – unique...
