Planewalk 3/18/04 Description:
a harbour for my visual creations
Comments:
Eleni a/k/a curly-haired monster, a 21-year-old artist, launched the site last September after several prior attempts and I'm glad she made it. A harbour for her art, the site's simple ink-splattered design is appealing. The works, going back as far as 1998, include traditional paintings, pen & wash, and pencil sketches plus digital portraits, paintings, scribbles, and collabs. Cool style – I love the untitled pencil drawing of a tree done in August, 2001. Eleni says "explore, enjoy, and perhaps be inspired." 3 for 3... [raster]
IdealWord 3/17/04 Description:
a product of the new artistic societies and its aim is to raise doubts within the digital art field
Comments:
There's more, considerably more than meets the eye when you view the artworks. "Computer aided methods of transformation of human consciousness" are at play here and the tasty combinations of image and text, and in many cases, text as image are absolutely astounding. Viewing the source of some of the HTML pieces will shed light on what's going on here and you can download .pdf versions for printing. It's all copyleft and meant to open doors. Explore and enjoy intertextual art... [linkdup]
Comfort Stand 3/14/04 Description:
a not-for-profit community driven label where all releases are free for download with artwork and liner notes
Comments:Nothing Is True led me to the site – Jeremy called it an "excellent selection of bedroom producers, plunderphonia, exotica, and tiki freakiness." There's some excellent homegrown content in its catalog of 16 releases. "Having no business model or profit motive we strive to bring you recordings that we find interesting, compelling and downright enjoyable. Everybody needs free music." Yes, it used the "F" word. Today's pick is an independent record label that let's you download everything, even cover art (plus lyrics in some cases), and it's all...free. Thank you Otis!
Daniel Lee 'Manimals' 3/11/04 Description:
digital images combining human portraits with animal features
Comments:
There's an amazing animated .gif called "Fish out of water" done in 1998-99, which shows Daniel Lee's "view of evolution." That's just the online representation of the actual work of art which is a sequence of 11 larger digital C-prints with a 5-minute animated presentation on DVD, currently on display at the JM Kolar Art Center in Wisconsin. That project is 1 of 5 showcased here. It looks like Daniel started doing his "Manimals" in 1993 and his work has been exhibited all over the world. Drawing. Photography. Fine art. Photoshop. Uniquely cool... [pictoblog]
Exitwound 3/1/04 Description:
photos and text by frank kolodziej
Comments:
A blogroll led me to "Exitwound (no space, no 's')" and I consider that a lucky moment. Outstanding photography and site design. I especially like Frank's close-up/macro shots, but the diverse collection is all good. There's over 2-dozen shots taken on the 28th alone. Whether using the archives (going back to 2001) or just clicking through the photos, it's an enjoyable browsing experience. – Jenett (one 'n', two 't')...;~))
