  Comments: "My pictures show what money can't buy." Still a work in progress, Places of no return documents "a torn down landscape with abandoned houses and deserted streets" when the expansion of a mining operation resulted in 7,500 people being forced to leave their homes in western Germany. Another series features 39 photos taken in several suburbs of New York City in 1999. "These suburbs impressed me so much, because they were so far away from all the pictures in my mind, when I was thinking about New York City at that time." Johanne, who's also a sculpture artist, certainly has a unique ability to capture the beauty often found in decaying, abandoned places...
